In a fit of rage, Shinji retreats to his room where he obsesses over the possibility of a world without his father. He tries to imagine how the world would be without him, but parts of him continue to listen to the Realizers and start to feel that this is the only way and that he is the only one who can bring it about.
While in his room, he decides to remove his plug and to build his own "plug" by using his own hard work and by using his own body as the power source. He begins to think of ways he can accomplish this goal and sets out to find things to make it possible.
Waking up from his trance, Shinji finds himself in a position where he has depleted all of his energy. He realizes that he cannot remove his plug because doing so would result in death. He tries to figure out what to do and wonders if there is anything he can do at this point or if he has already done all that he can do.
As he struggles with these thoughts, his father comes into the room and asks if Shinji has decided on anything yet.
