The Mouth of Sauron, also known as the Necromancer, is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. He was a Maia of Aulë and one of the three rulers of the Valar, the Maiar who lived after the departure of the Valar from Arda, and had power over the spirits of death and spirits of the dead.
In The Lord of the Rings, he is one of the Maiar imprisoned by Melkor at Utumno and later rescued by Gandalf and Saruman. Saruman later turned him and his people (the Necromancer, Sauron and his servants) into his servants and he became known as the Necromancer.
He was the chief servant of Morgoth and led the forces of darkness in Middle-earth in his service. He used his powers to corrupt and enslave many races, such as Men, Dwarves and Elves, and was responsible for the formation of Ringwraiths.
The Mouth of Sauron is a living man and one of the black Númenóreans. His name has been forgotten even by himself. He was Sauron's messenger and the lieutenant of Barad-Dûr. The mouth of Sauron wore a black metal helmet with spikes protruding from the top, a long black robe, he had very messy teeth, and was tall in height. He had a brief encounter with Aragorn and a few others prior to the Battle of the Morannon. He dismissed Aragorn's claim as king. The Mouth of Sauron attempted to threaten and discourage the army of Gondor by showing Frodo's Mithril coat. He also showed Sam's sword and an elven cloak with the brooch. He said that Aragorn's actions would result in this "spys" fate. He also said Mordor would Sauron's and Sauron was never to be assailed again. Gonder and Rohan could govern themselves as long as Isengard was rebuilt. The Mouth of Sauron was killed shortly after.
