Elizabeth is deeply insulted by the revelations of Mr. Wickham's duplicity, and decides to write to her parents about it, but she is suddenly interrupted by another letter, this one from Mr. Darcy, who is devastated by the revelation that Elizabeth has married Mr. Collins on his behalf. He is even more hurt when he learns that Elizabeth had written to her parents, but by the time she receives Mr. Darcy's letter she has already sent it to Mr. Collins, who has gone ahead and married Mr. Wickham.
