She has been immigrating to the United States since the early ’70s, and she and her husband have been granted citizenship.
“I spend just about all my time at the U.S. Consulate in Munich now,” she said. “I have a permanent appointment there. I am waiting for my green card.”
That she is even allowed to remain in Germany is a tribute to her patience and optimism. “It’s OK that they are waiting,” she said. “I think they will do it in our lifetime.”
