Peralta was born in Mexico City in 1898 and came to the United States as a child.
At age 8, he saw his first skyscraper, the 10-story Wainwright Building, in Chicago.
“He was very much inspired by the skyscraper,” said Feiler.
In 1925, Peralta was hired to help design Twin Towers in New York City. He was paid $500 a year, a pittance even for a designer then, but Peralta didn’t think it was enough to live on.
Peralta was always looking for work.
