“My career started with a wild idea,” Nao tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I was the only female in the lecture hall at the time, so I didn’t have to worry about being intimidating or attracting attention. The class was small, and I was able to talk about what I wanted. The first day of class, I talked about my idea of starting a line of cosmetics called Vivid. When I walked into the classroom, there were five guys. I was the only woman. From that moment on, I knew I could make it in the beauty industry.”
Nao’s passion for cosmetics came from her experience as an elementary school teacher. “I always wanted to teach, but working at a public school, where I had to wear a uniform, was too limiting,” she says. “I realized that I just couldn’t do it at that school — and that’s when I decided to go into the beauty industry.”
Nao began thinking about how to open a store and began doing research.
