Vlad the Younger (Vlad III) is the prince of Wallachia, son of Vlad II Dracul, and brother of Mircea. He is an outsider to Wallachia because he was born out of wedlock to his father. He was originally known as Vlad the Impaler, for his practice of impaling his enemies.
According to Vlad III, he was born in 1431, his father Vlad II Dracul was imprisoned by Hungary in 1431 for not accepting the Treaty of Szeged, which placed Wallachia under direct Hungarian rule. When he was released, he became angry with the Hungarians, but they refused to release him from his pledge. So Vlad II Dracul decided to drink his own blood to make a treaty with the Hungarians. Vlad III was never seen again after that, but it is rumored that he was adopted by the Turks.
Vlad III came back to Wallachia in 1456 with an army to take the throne. He defeated the Hungarians, but then pretended that he was still their vassal.
