Petit, who is now a director of the sales division at Facebook, has been working in Internet marketing since he was 16 years old. He said he made the choice to go into marketing after he had been told by his dad that he needed to get a job in order to get paid.
"After hearing that, I just thought to myself, 'Well, if I don't do this, who will?'" Petit told Business Insider. "I didn't want to be working for someone else."
Petit, who has five siblings, said he has always been interested in computers. When he was younger, he spent a lot of time playing with his cousins' computers and doing some programming on his own.
"I did a lot of computer programming in my younger years," Petit said. "I was always doing that before I started college."
