Petronella Osgood is an American amateur astronomer. She is a prolific popularizer of astronomy, and is a professor at Harvard University, where she teaches a popular astronomy course. Her research interests include planetary nebulae, planetary rings. She is a member of the International Astronomical Union, National Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. In 2004 she was awarded the Public Welfare Medal from the National Academy of Sciences, the highest honor given by the United States National Academy of Sciences.
She has been president of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was a founder of the Harvard College Observatory, now called the Osgood Museum of sky charts and star charts. Osgood is also a director on the Harvard Corporation and is a member of the Council of Advisors of Harvard University. She is on the board of directors of the International Year of Astronomy, and she is on the board of directors of the Planetary Society and a fellow on the board of directors of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.
