The band's name is also a reference to this personality type theory. Originally the band's name was 'The New Wave of British Heavy Metal', which would make sense if they were an INTP band. As it is, the band became famous by the name 'Metallica' which is a pun on 'Metallipede', which refers to the INTP's view of the world.
The INTP's view of the world is that there are very few things that are absolutely certain, and it is important to be open to new information. So they are very sceptical about what they see in the world around them, which is why they are so open to new ideas. With this attitude, they are likely to find new things in an old band name, and so they decided to change the name of their band to 'Metallica'.
Although they are very open to new ideas, they dislike unproven theories.
