I don't think this is an accurate description. I have met people that are ESFP who are more extroverted than I am.
He's not the only one. Most of the people I've met are also introverted, so I can't say it's something all ISTJs have in common.
I have to say though, that an introverted person is someone who has a quiet, reserved nature. I guess what I'm saying is ISTJs are quiet people who are reserved to others, but they can still be very outgoing with close friends.
I believe that the reason people are not very open about their ISTJ type is because they are too afraid to admit that they are introverted. That's why I think they are misunderstood.
