Maria Robotnik was the granddaughter of Prof. Gerald Robotnik (and thus the cousin of Dr. Eggman). Suffering from a rare incurable illness, she once lived with Gerald aboard the Space Colony ARK, where she met the newly-created Shadow and quickly befriended him. However, she was killed by GUN forces that stormed the ARK.
