A lot of what happens in our lives is influenced by other people. For example, if you make a friend, you're likely to be more confident and enjoy life a lot more, I think.
In the game, we've decided to have a subset of NPCs who have had some sort of event where they got lost on the island. So depending on how they were lost, they might act differently.
