This question is incredibly relevant to how I approach the anime. The same applies to my feelings on the characters. Would I say that Neon Genesis Evangelion is better than Steins;Gate? No, because Steins;Gate has far more to offer. Would I say it's better than Persona 4? Yes, because Persona 4 is a well-written game that doesn't need to be compared to the franchise it came from, unlike Neon Genesis Evangelion. I do believe that Neon Genesis Evangelion has its place in what it does, and that's why I like it.
What about dating sims?
I'll admit that I haven't really played dating sims before, but I've heard of them. I don't think it's something I'll play for a while any time soon, though. I don't really see myself as the type of person who enjoys these kind of games.
