An ISTP can be assertive in certain situations, but when they are not assertive it is only because they don’t really want to be in control.
Most ISTPs do not want to be the center of attention. They value their independence and freedom, and will often go out of their way to avoid attention. Their need for freedom is actually more important than their need for freedom in the spotlight.
