The crime was committed by his wife, Elize Araújo Kitano Matsunaga, when he was 30 years old, who confessed to having killed him with a .380 pistol headshot and dismembered his body. The motivation for the crime was, according to her, the discovery of an extramarital relationship by her husband. Elize was convicted of the crime of qualified Homicide, provided for in the hypotheses of art. 121, §2 of the Brazilian Penal Code. The case was listed as one of the "22 crimes that shocked Brazil."
