Fritzl's parents were very different from him. His mother was an introvert and his father was an extrovert. He was not averse to using people, although he did so to a lesser extent than his father did. In fact, his father often told him that he was too nice. Josef Fritzl also disliked being alone and felt more comfortable being with people, which is why he chose to be with his mother more often.
Josef liked to have a lot of friends and would spend time with them at the local bar. Josef's father, on the other hand, was a loner. He had no friends and rarely went out in public. His wife didn't like this, and when she found out about his extroverted personality, she would often scold him about it.
Josef's father would often tell him that he was too nice and not aggressive enough. Josef's mother would scold him for this as well, and she never understood how his father could be so aggressive when they lived in such a peaceful town.
The Fritzl case emerged in April 2008, when a woman named Elisabeth Fritzl (born 6 April 1966) told police in the town of Amstetten, Austria, that she had been held captive for 24 years by her father, Josef Fritzl (born 9 April 1935). Fritzl had assaulted, sexually abused, and raped her numerous times during her imprisonment inside a concealed area in the basement of the family home. The abuse by Elisabeth's father resulted in the birth of seven children: three of them remained in captivity with their mother, one had died just days after birth, and the other three were brought up by Fritzl and his wife, Rosemarie, having been reported as foundlings.
