Tadashi Nakano is a computer scientist who has been named a JPL Fellow by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. He is a co-inventor of the SIFT feature-matching algorithm and a co-writer of the first book on SIFT. He was a member of the team that developed the first commercial system for computer vision called Cognex Vision Systems. He has also developed a system for analyzing a large number of images at a time and has developed a system for face detection and tracking. He teaches computer vision at Stanford University.
In May 2014, he was named one of the one hundred most influential people in artificial intelligence by Business Insider. In April 2016, he was named one of the top ten entrepreneurs in cutting edge AI by GeekWire. In addition, he has been named as one of the top ten most influential computer scientists by MIT Technology Review.
Nakano is currently involved with the Beyond AI initiative, which is an effort to advance the understanding of artificial intelligence and its future.
