I have always dreamed of being a leader, but I have never felt like I would be a good one. I have always felt like I would be better at running a project than making policy and that in combination with my somewhat high-strung personality type (combined with my fear of failure) made me avoid leadership opportunities.
I had my first big leadership opportunity about a year ago, when I was asked to lead a small group of people in the National Organization for Women (NOW) chapter of Seattle. I was hesitant at first because I had never done it before, but since I love being part of the NOW community and I knew how much the membership liked me, I took the chance.
The jury is still out on whether I will be successful in this role. I have been encouraged by members and have gained a lot of respect from them as they have gotten to know me.
