    ESTJ (8w7)

Captain Ironsides personality type is ESTJ, as described by the theory of cognitive functions.

In the real world, Captain Ironsides is an actual naval captain who served with great distinction in the United States Navy during the 19th century. He is known primarily for his daring exploits in the Mexican-American War.

ESTJ is one of the four cognitive functions, which is a typology of personality traits. It is a Perceiving function that is rooted in practical problem-solving. ESTJs are very focused on actions and immediate outcomes, which can make them impatient and prone to sometimes acting without thinking through the consequences of their decisions.

The ESTJ personality type is also used to describe the personality of many fictional characters, such as:

Captain Ironsides – The real life captain who served with distinction in the US Navy during the Mexican-American War.

    – The real life captain who served with distinction in the US Navy during the Mexican-American War. Admiral Ackbar – The large, scowling leader of the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars.

    – The large, scowling leader of the Rebel Alliance in Star Wars. Chief Engineer Scott – The character played by Chris Hemsworth in the film Star Trek.

Ironsides is a sentry bot and the captain of the USS Constitution in 2287. Ironsides believes he is a colonial era Naval captain, while the terminal on the ship's deck indicates that he was designed to entertain tourists on the USS Constitution. Additionally, an entry in 2055, before the bombs dropped in 2077, indicated that something was overheating and leading to data corruption and although the terminal entry is vague, it is not unlikely that it was the robot's fault, as sentry bots are known for overheating. This all alludes to the fact that Ironsides' programming has run amok in the years since his human caretakers died, and as a result he has assumed complete control over the ship, having reprogrammed a variety of robots to serve as his crew. Despite his bizarre mannerisms and choice of hat, Ironsides is fully aware of his surroundings and knows full well that the U.S. Military no longer exists.
