Franchi was born in Milan, Italy. She started studying music at the age of 14, and started singing professionally in English at the age of 18. After this she went on to study at the Milan Conservatory and graduated with a bachelor's degree in music and later a master's degree in musicology. Franchi began singing professionally in 1985, when she was signed to Polydor Italy, a subsidiary of Polygram. Her first single release was "Toi, Moi, Moi", which was written by her husband, Piero Pelù, who also composed the song "Re-Ga-La-Di" for her second album, "Elisabetta". Some of her other songs include "Nel Cuore", "Pensa e Ride", "Tu", and "Maria".
Franchi first appeared in a television advertisement for telemarketing company Telemarketing Italia in 1984. Franchi then provided the voice of an angel for the 1987 TV special, "Gli Angeli Di Rio".
