The Coyote Man was a notorious Templar—most likely of Lakota ancestry—who was regarded as the deadliest hunter of Assassins active on the east coast of North America during the 18th century. At one point, he slaughtered an Assassin Mentor with his bare hands. In 2012, his genetic memories were utilized as an Animi Avatar by Abstergo Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Templar company Abstergo Industries, for the tertiary stage of their Animus game console. The title of his character was that of his very alias in life: "Coyote Man". As part of their plan to influence the general public with propaganda, Abstergo's profile for the Coyote Man omitted his Templar affiliations, describing him as a man loyal to his village rather than the Templars. While it also replaced the victim of Coyote Man's infamous murder of a Mentor with a bear, it did not shy away from noting he was an Assassin hunter.
