Meiko personality type is ESTJ, or an Extraverted, Sensing, Thinking, Judging type. ESTJs are the most dominant of the eight personality types, and are said to have a natural leadership quality to them. They are often described as being organized and detail-oriented, and trust their gut instinct above all else.
As a young child, Keiko had a similar personality to a young ESTJ. Her mother recalls that Keiko had a "very definite opinion" on all subjects, and that she was an "excellent student" who "knew exactly what she wanted." She was also very outgoing and friendly with those around her.
By the time Keiko was 13, however, she became more introverted and reserved. Her parents noticed that she seemed to be putting on an act and hiding some of her true feelings, which worried them. They eventually decided to take Keiko to a psychiatrist, who diagnosed her with depression and bipolar disorder.
"When she was depressed, she worried about everything and lost weight," explains her mother. "When she was manic...she became talkative and energetic. When she was manic, she felt great, but then would become depressed again."
