Patrice Franceschi is a French writer, adventurer, documentary & film maker. At 18, he organized an ethnological expedition to the Congo with three companions. He followed the Nile from its source to the sea and crossed the Egyptian desert on camelback. He went to the Himalayas and the Amazon. He learned to pilot airplanes and became the first person to fly around the world in a microlight. At the end of 1970, he participated in the rescue of boat people in the China Sea. In the 1980s, he joined the Afghan resistance forces against the Soviet army. He has initiated numerous humanitarian missions in war zones ever since. He has also been the captain of a three-master ship with which he has completed some twenty expeditions around the world. He is the author of some thirty essays on current struggles, as well as an autobiography, short stories and novels, and dozens of documentary movies. He received the Goncourt short story prize for his book Première personne du singulier.
