Amarys Briar was born into a family of great wealth and nobility. She was raised in a large castle, doted on by servants and honored by many. Amarys Briar was a precocious child. She loved to learn and read. She was always curious about the world around her; she was never satisfied with the stories her parents told her, or the legends of the family. She would listen to the servants talk and ask questions about the castle and its inhabitants, hoping to learn more.
One day, Amarys Briar was alone in the castle when she heard a strange sound coming from the kitchen. She ran to see what it was, discovering a small group of people, all dressed in rags, carrying large sacks over their shoulders. They were a strange people from across the sea, who had no knowledge of her home and its ways. These people were also very curious about her castle and its inhabitants. Amarys Briar was fascinated by them. One of them, a woman named Falcone, seemed to have an interest in her.
