Naotsugu is gay, which makes him the first main character to be asexual in a visual novel. I think this is an excellent choice, because it adds an interesting dimension to an otherwise fairly standard story.
There is no mention of Naotsugu’s sexuality in the text itself, but there is a rather clear reference to it when you reach level 3 in your relationship with him. You get a little message telling you that he’s gay, and that you’ve probably already guessed it. Despite this, Naotsugu has a boyfriend at the end of the game. I think this is a fantastically clever way of handling the subject, because it doesn’t tell the player what their character should do, but gives them a good reason to care about it in the first place.
Naotsugu’s sexual orientation is an important part of his character, and it’s handled brilliantly.
