Carlile was diagnosed as an INTP when he was young, but the Carlile personality has been difficult to understand. One reason is that Carlile has said that he is “really more of a philosopher” than an entertainer. Another explanation is that when Carlile was younger, he was diagnosed as an INTJ.
Carlile has said that he had a difficult childhood. His mother was a religious fanatic who was also a nurse and an alcoholic. His father was also an alcoholic. He calls his mother “the most evil person I’ve ever met.” He mentions that he had no contact with her during most of his childhood and was taken away from her by Child Protective Services. Carlile was placed into foster care and ended up in the care of caring people who loved him.
