Despite his youth, Trudgen has a history of being a very capable warrior. When he was 16, he was a member of a mercenary force that was hired to kill Shulk and his family, for which he was subsequently recruited into the Sharance legion by the leader of the group, Deathmask.
When Shulk and Reyn leave to go on a "field trip" to another world, Trudgen is left in charge of the company. He is very inexperienced and awkward in this role, and he falls under the influence of Nack, who tells him to disband the company. He does not think he can lead them to victory, and doesn't want to have to kill anyone.
Trudgen's personality is very different from his previous personalities. He is no longer the "Knight of Ren", or even the "Knight of Fate", but rather a "Knight of Weakness". He is afraid to fight, and is more concerned with the people than the goal. He tries to convince the party members to stop fighting, and even convinces himself.
