Lucy Slack personality type is ESTJ, and I'm an ESTJ. So when I see the ESTJ stereotype of 'quiet, calm, and unemotional', I cringe. I've always felt that I was, and always have been, the opposite of that. So when I was diagnosed with Schizotypal Personality Disorder (check out my blog post about that here) I was surprised to find that a lot of people that I'd known my whole life, including family and friends, thought that I was a 'quiet, calm, and unemotional' person.
I wondered if this was because of a lack of understanding of the disorder, or if it was because of the stereotype of the ESTJ personality type. So I decided to do some research into it and I found one study (PDF here) and two books that helped me understand why people think this way.
The first is The Quiet Types: How Introverts Can Thrive in an Extrovert World by Susan Cain. She discusses how people think introverts are quiet, unemotional, shy, and just plain weird.
