He was not always a nice guy though. In his time as a villain, he was a very prideful and aggressive person who went as far as killing his own son to prove his power to the universe as well as his own family. He was also very manipulative as well, as he used Goten’s death as an excuse to take the Super Saiyan form and fight at full power against Goku once more. He was also very arrogant and self-righteous, believing that he was always right and that anyone who disagreed with him were nothing more than fools or idiots.
However, after losing the first fight with Goku, he realized that he was simply no match for this Saiyan. He took this as a sign from the universe, believing that the universe was telling him that he could not win against Goku, so he decided to give up his evil ways and devote himself to help the universe instead.
