In the two-part episode "American Dreamer", Lucian is portrayed as obsessed with being a famous writer like his paternal grandfather, who was killed by Lucian's mother. He is writing a novel about his life. The novel is written in the first person and he believes that he is the main character in the story, believing that if he writes about himself, he will be able to change history and make his mother love him. He also believes that if he does not write about himself, his mother will kill him. He is shown to be arrogant; for example, he tells his mother that she should have aborted him because she loves him more than anyone else, and that she is not as good of a mother as she thinks. He also takes advantage of his mother's feelings of guilt over his father's death and tries to make her feel guilty over her husband's death. He almost succeeds in making her feel guilty over her son's death. At the end of the episode, he manages to get the police to arrest his mother, believing that they will protect him from her while he is in jail.
