Najma personality type is ESTJ, and presumably this living under the shadow of the Muslim Brotherhood would have made him more aware of the threat of the MB than any other Muslim in the country. Thus, he was probably more politically aware than his peers.
I have not yet gone through his memoirs (taken from his website), but give him the benefit of doubt that he was not only a good man, but also a devout Muslim. He was born in Egypt and raised by his mother, who would have been convinced that her son would grow up as a devout Muslim. He is also an Egyptian citizen, with higher status than most Egyptians.
Thus, I can only assume that he was a person who was better than his peers at paying attention to politics.
3. What made him leave Egypt?
Although he was well aware of the Muslim Brotherhood, he still remained in Egypt.
He left Egypt because he felt that it was not safe for him to remain there. He wanted to move to Canada, which he thought was safer than Egypt.
He felt that it was not safe for him to remain in Egypt – that is why he left. There is nothing special about him leaving Egypt.
