When he was just 7, he was sent to be trained in the art of sword fighting by the Takeda clan's master. He was one of a handful of students in the world who had been taught in this way. He quickly became one of the best swordsmen in the clan, and was sent to learn from other masters.
The Takeda clan was a very powerful family in feudal Japan, and its master had been a general in many battles. In fact, he had been so successful that he had never been defeated in battle. This man was called Oda Nobunaga.
Nobunaga's army invaded the Hōjō clan during the 1570s, and the families took up arms against each other. The war continued for many years.
The Takeda were known as "the clan of iron" because they fought very fiercely and did not surrender.
