A Jewish deli owner in Brooklyn refused to sell soup to a group of Hasidic Jews during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, when Jews are prohibited from eating or drinking anything. The deli owner was successful in getting a court order to stop the sale because he had the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. The court found that the refusal was based on one person's religious beliefs, which was against New York State law.
