Chapter 1 - Out of the Ground
"One, two, three, four, five, six. One, two, three, four, five, six."
The young boy counted in his head as he pulled on his flame-retardant suit. It was so much like a sleeping bag that it dragged behind him. It was a little large for him, but that was okay; he would be able to squeeze his legs and arms through the zipper in the front. He was getting ready to go outside.
The boy's father stood by the door. "Are you ready?" the man asked.
"Yes," the boy said. He pulled himself out of the room, down the stairs and out onto the patio. He stood there waiting for a moment before he climbed over the railing and stepped on to the lawn.
A few feet away from him was a large hole in the ground.
