I recently finished my undergraduate degree in History of Art, with an emphasis in psychology. While in college, I was introduced to a fascinating academic field called "Type Dynamics". This field studies cognitive functions and how they manifest themselves in different personality types. It's fascinating, as it reveals how our various personalities function and interact with each other.
The gist of Type Dynamics:
Each of us has a dominant function (1), which can be "dominant" due to the number of letters in its name (most people are INFJ or INTJ). The other four functions are auxiliary functions (2), which help us to process information. An auxiliary function is essentially the opposite of the dominant function, and is frequently referred to as the "inferior" function. The two functions are either the same or opposite in nature, and this determines whether the individual is an "externally focused" (3) type or an "internally focused" (4) type.
