The Warriors of Chaos
The Chaos Warriors are a concept I have been working with for over ten years. In my first original fantasy novel, The Chaos Trilogy, they are part of an alternative history of the Middle Ages. I was inspired by the Black Crusades, also known as the Crusade of the Princes, or the Holy War, in which the kings of Europe took up arms against the Muslims.
I like the idea of a sort of fantasy version of the Crusades. I wanted to create a race of warrior monks, but to make them true warriors I had to come up with a name for them. I knew they had to be a different race than the humans, elves, dwarves and gnomes, so I needed a name that was not part of the standard fantasy dictionary.
These guys are not really monks. They are what I call “Pathfinders”: warriors who seek out other races and conquer them. They were created for The Chaos Trilogy, but I decided to use them in this blog series because they are so cool. They are tough, cunning, confident, and badass… and everyone loves them.
