Han Jung-Yeon personality type is INTP, although Jung is an ENTP. Jung's early years were dedicated to studying the violin, having been taught at the age of 5 by his mother, a music teacher and musician. His childhood was spent in the countryside, in a small town named Segye, where Jung lived with his family until moving to Seoul in 1956. Jung attended Seodaemun High School, where he was a mediocre student, and was often bullied and beaten up by his classmates for his perceived lack of intelligence. He spent most of his time drawing and listening to music, with the school orchestra being his favorite. At the age of 18, he majored in Music at Seoul National University where he discovered the world of film, studying under Professor Jeong Seong-kyu.
In 1971, Jung had a short stint as a concert violinist in Japan. After graduating from university, Jung joined the Korean movie industry as an assistant director in 1974. By 1976, he had already directed seven films. He then moved to Japan on a one-year contract in 1980, where he worked as an assistant and editor.
