“I see no difference in writing styles between men and women,” Horenko shared. “When I read a piece, I look for the author’s personality and style, but I don’t see any difference. I am not a fan of gender roles in writing.”
Horenko says that she doesn’t think most female writers are conscious of the gender bias that exists in writing.
“We don’t feel the pressure to be a ‘woman writer,’ but we are conscious of gender biases,” Horenko said. “Sometimes female authors get told they should write more like a man because they are women.”
Horenko says that what really matters is the quality of the writing and the true voice of the author.
“I believe there is no gender bias in writing, but some people make different choices about the style,” she said.
