This may seem like an odd choice for a sci-fi film, but the alien-ishness of the situation lends itself to a logical explanation. In the film, the physicist Rajat Kapoor is tasked with taking part in a mysterious experiment that involves him being placed into a virtual environment where he is able to manipulate matter, but he is unable to interact with his physical body. He discovers that the virtual world is very real and that he is the only person who can observe and control it, but the more he becomes immersed in it, the more prone he is to slipping into a coma, evidenced by his waxy skin and the onset of severe muscle atrophy.
Rajat’s assistant, Rona (played by Anushka Sharma), worries that she is losing him to this virtual world and begins to worry that they will never see each other again. She begins to secretly contact Rajat so that he may contact her, but his body receives no signals and he soon slips further into a coma. Rajat’s colleagues attempt to wake him up by removing him from the virtual world, but they are unable to wake him up.
