OSMALIK: The quote I like is from Admiral James Stockdale, who was a POW and a Navy pilot. He said, "When you are in the Navy, you are part of a team. You are part of an idea. You are part of a cause bigger than yourself." That is the most profound quote I've ever heard.
JON: What is your biggest accomplishment in life?
OSMALIK: I think my biggest accomplishment is that I've been able to live my life in a way that has been meaningful to me. If I hadn't been in the military, then I wouldn't be where I am today. I think that's what gives me meaning in life.
This is exactly how I feel about my writing in general. It is a calling to me, it's a cause bigger than myself. When I'm not writing, when I'm not thinking about writing, I lose my meaning. Without writing, I would not be who I am today.
