Emma Anemone is the second of five children, and the only daughter. Her father was the Captain of the Guard at the King’s court. Emma was trained in many things, but her father’s favorite was learning to ride and shoot a bow. She took to this training like a duck to water, and was proficient at both. It was while practicing with her bow that she accidentally shot an arrow into her left eye. This accident turned her vision from slightly blurry to not being able to see at all. At first the King, who had a soft spot for his daughter, did not want to hear about the accident. But when he first saw her he cried out in horror. The King took Emma to see many healers, and all their tests showed her to be perfectly healthy. The King did not believe that a girl, who could not see could be all right on her own, so he sent her to a school for the blind where she learned how to read and write Braille, and some basic math and science.
