Margaret of Lancaster was the younger sister of Edward III and worked closely with him in his reign. She was a very devoted woman, as well as a prudent commander. She was loyal and faithful to her husband.
Her marriage to Edward of Caernarfon, who already had a wife, was arranged by her brother and it is said that she was not happy with the idea. It is known that she had to endure several miscarriages and was left with a son only after a long struggle.
In 1363, the couple had only one surviving daughter, Joan. She died in 1375, at the age of fifteen, possibly as a result of a disease that was prevalent in the time.
Margaret went on to have three more children with her husband: Isabella, born in 1365; Elizabeth, born in 1368; and Edward, born in 1369.
Margaret’s children were very close to each other, and they all were very close to their mother. All of them were very intelligent and educated.
