As a child, I was a tomboy. I went to my father for fashion advice whenever I wanted to dress up a bit. My father also took great interest in my interests and encouraged me to pursue them. He had a great appreciation for the arts, especially music and theatre.
When I was 8 years old, my father bought me my first guitar. I started learning how to play and eventually we would form a band together called “The Line-Up”. Not long after, he bought me my first keyboard. We started writing music together and we would perform around town. The band was very successful in small towns in southern California. I was very excited to be playing music with my father and it gave me a sense of purpose and direction.
I was told I was always going to be an artist as long as I could remember. I felt that I had a gift for it, but also always felt that I had something else to do as well. I felt that later on in life, I would feel more settled and complete in myself.
I remember being about 21 years old when I started exploring the idea of genderfluidity.
