"I had a lot of anxiety and I was quite nervous about it," he said. "It was my first time living away from home, so I was worried about the whole experience and what it would be like.
"I wasn't really good at dating or looking for girlfriends at university, so it was quite hard to get girls to go out with me.
"I think I'm better at looking for girls now than I was then, but I'm still not very good at it. I'm still finding it hard to pick up girls when I want them to go out with me."
Sakuma said he was very nervous about his first match against Poullain, who is ranked 17th in the UK and has been playing squash since he was 15.
