This first thing that needs to be said is that malignant narcissism is not the same thing as NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder).
For one, the malignant narcissist is not an NPD, and they rarely identify as such. They have no desire to “fix” the other person, they do not think that they are “bad” people, and they do not declare themselves above other people. They don’t self-diagnose or go see a therapist in hopes of getting better. They’re just not bothered by other people’s problems.
If you’ve ever played the game “Telephone”, you’ll understand how it works. Someone makes a comment, and then it gets passed along to everyone else until it becomes a completely different story.
The good news is that NPD is a type of psychological condition that can be cured by therapy and behavior modification. Malignant narcissism is also a psychological condition, but it can’t be cured. It can be treated, and the treatments are usually successful.
