“I was always very goal-oriented,” says Lucy. “I was awesome at maths and science. I remember being in my final year at university I got offered a position as a research technician, but I really wanted to become a doctor. So I got advice from friends who were doctors and took up a temporary position as a research technician. I really enjoyed it but it came with some challenges.
“I think I was very lucky because I had some great mentors who helped me iron out some of the challenges. You can’t be afraid of change, you have to embrace it and roll with it.”
Lucy tells about an experience she had on her first day on the job as a research technician. “I was working on the following project: the execution of the strategy for developing a new oral rehydration solution that would be more effective than the current product on the market. The project was handed over to my team and they set up their experiment to test various solutions.
