Socionics
Socionics is a system of typology developed by Russian psychologist A.L.I. Meusel in the 1970s. The theory was later popularized by the American-born socionist David Keirsey, who developed the Keirsey Temperament Sorter and Age of Aquarius Project. Meusel's work was criticized by Keirsey, but he developed the theory into something that matched his own ideas.[1] The theory was further developed by a Soviet psychologist Vladimir Demektov and several others.[2]
In socionics, each person's personality is divided into 16 types (fourteen temperaments and two extraverts). Each type is divided into subtypes (for example, INTJ as one of three different subtypes). The theory posits that people with the same type share similar preferences, and people with different types are different in their preferences. This can be explained in terms of Jungian typology, where each type is seen as a psychological type (for example, ISTJ is the cognitive, sensing, thinking, judging type).
