The Bael are first mentioned in the game as evil beings with an interest in the Etrurian Kingdom and the players' progress there. The player's army encounters them at the end of chapter three, where they are revealed to be an enemy nation. The Bael are ruled by the Theocracy, who is a powerful empire in their own right. They have a policy of enslaving all females and humans, and only allow male Bael to rule. They are lead by a King known as Balaw, who is one of the two main villains in the entire game, the other being the Vile Tribe. The other King is named Gormlaith, who is Balaw's sister. In chapter four, a Council of War is held, and it is revealed that Balaw and Gormlaith are fraternal twins, with Balaw being the true heir to the throne of the Bael.
