Calcelmo personality type is INTP, not INTJ.
He has a most excellent idea for a way to defeat the "Underking" with a ritual, but he's too nervous to actually do it. He just doesn't want to risk his life for it (he's a priest, after all). It's only when the "Underking" attacks him and his friends and wife and child, and Calcelmo gives his life for them, that they realize there's something more to Calcelmo than they'd realized before.
The key is that Calcelmo didn't actually do the ritual. He told the party that he was going to do it, and he was going to do it as soon as he could. He didn't do it, and he's fine with that.
He's not a braggart; he's not an extrovert. He's a reserved introvert, who loves his family and is a very good priest. He cares about his friends and his community, but he doesn't have a huge ego or anything like that. He's just a calm, intelligent man who would sacrifice himself for the people he cares about.
